Welcome the Career Break Coach blog.

A Career Break is a period of time taken out of your normal routine to do something completely different such as travel, do some volunteer work, gain a new skill or a professional qualification, renovate your house or simply work on your tan.

About Me

Welcome...
I’m Sue Hadden, The Career Break Coach.

With a background in human resource management, graduate and MBA recruitment, coaching and mentoring, Sue Hadden, founder of Career Break Coach, is an inspirational, vibrant and passionate person.  Her expertise is as a personal coach and facilitator focusing predominately on people wanting to take a Career Break and helping Career Break returners transition back into the workplace.   After completing her training in Australia at The Coaching Institute, Free to be Me Life Coaching and the Chris Howard Training Academy, Sue returned to London to establish her coaching business.  In line with her desire to contribute, Sue volunteers her coaching services to schools, charities and volunteer organisations to help those who would not normally have access to her type of skills. As an experienced Career Breaker herself, Sue has taken two Career Breaks in the last 5 years.  To help you see what's possible, Sue has shared with you what she experienced during her breaks.

First Career Break (Oct 2005 - March 2006)
  •          3 months in Los Angeles up-skilling my photography skills and travelling
  •          6 weeks in Australia spending time with family and friends
  •          1 month in Thailand, spending time in the north and south
  •          1 month in Taiwan visiting friends and volunteering at a children’s home
  •          3 days in Hong Kong on the way back to London
A couple of the locals playing around at an elephant park near Ayutthaya, 1 hour north of Bangkok.

Second Career Break (Feb 2009 – Sept 2010)
  •          1 week on Brampton Island for a friend’s birthday
  •          3 week cruise from Perth to Sydney via Tasmania and New Zealand
  •          7 months living in Brisbane with my sister, her husband and her FOUR kids
  •          1 month in Vietnam
  •          1 month in Laos and Cambodia
  •          1 month in Bangkok helping friends with their travel business
  •          3 months living at the Gold Coast when I returned from Asia
  •          Completed a Life Coaching Qualification with the The Coaching Institute
  •          Attended three other self-development and coaching training courses
  •          Started writing my e-book "How to Make the Break"
  •          Wrote many coaching workshops and team events
  •          3 months living with friends in Brisbane before returning to London
Meeting the local children in a village off the Mekong Delta, Laos, really helps you put things into perspective. These kids barely have anything, however, still smiled, laughed and made us feel welcome in their home.
What have been the benefits of my Career Breaks?

Wow, where do I start?
  • Meeting so many like-minded people, some have become great friends
  • Experienced new cultures, customs and religions plus meeting local people
  • Visited monumental places that carved our history
  • Able to give back to society through volunteer work
  • Time to reflect on what I wanted in life
  • Became more understanding and tolerant of other people
  • Learned new skills which can be transferred back in the work place
  • Able to reconnect with friends and family
  • Felt refreshed and enthused when I returned to the UK
  • Appreciative of what I have and realised I can live with less
  • Lost attachments to my personal and material possessions
  • Changed my mind-set on what’s really important in life

If, while you're reading this you're picturing yourself spreading your maps out over the dining room table and planning where to go and what to do or you can already hear the roar of the engines as the plane starts to take off or maybe you'd like to stay at home and volunteer at a local charity and feel the sense of satisfaction of giving back and contributing to a meaningful cause, then maybe it's time to start telling yourself YOU CAN DO IT!

I encourage and support you to make the decision to step out of your daily routine to do something you’ve always wanted to do.  Create memories that will last forever!
